the catcher in the rye

ayan.. tapos ko na sia kanina lang.. the author J.D. Salinger uses first person point of view sa persona ni Holden Caulfield.. isang 16 year old na guy... astig kasi habagn binabasa mo ung book.. damang dama mong sixteen ni Holden..kahit ba mejo mahina ulo nia.. kaya nag stow away sia... kahit ba walang kasiguruhan ang gusto nia sa buhay...eto ung lines na nagpprove nian..conversation between Holden and his younger sister Phoebe.

It made me even more depressed when she said that.
"Yes I do. Yes I do. Sure I do. Don't say that. Why the hell do you say that?"
"Because you don't. You don't like any schools. You don't like a million things. You don't."
"I do! That's where you're wrong--that's exactly where you're wrong! Why the hell do you have to say that?" I said. Boy, was she depressing me.
"Because you don't." she said. "Name one thing."
"One thing? One thing I like?" I said. "Okay."
Trouble was, I couldn't concentrate too hot. Sometimes it's hard to concentrate.

"What?" I said to old Phoebe. She said something to me, but I didn't hear her.
"You can't even think of one thing."
"Yes, I can. Yes, I can."
"Well, do it, then."
"I like Allie," I said. "And I like what I'm doing right now. Sitting here with you, and talking and about stuff, and--"
"Allie's dead--You always say that! If somebody's dead and everything, and in Heaven, then it isn't really--"
"I know he's dead! Don't you think I know that? I can still like him, though, can't I? Just because somebody's dead, you don't just stop liking them, for God's sake--especially if they were about a thousand times nicer than the people you know that're alive and all."

She was right, though. It is "If a body meet a body comming through the rye." I didn't know it then, though.
"I thought it was "If a body catch a body,'" I said. "Anyway, I keep picturing all these kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around--nobody big, I mean--except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff--I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going i have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy."]]

aion.. akala ko.. hindi ko malalaman kung bakit CATCHER IN THE RYE ang title..kasi malapit ng matapos ung story by that time he and Phoebe had this conversation.. si Holden, isa siang simpleng tao. he doesn't make things complicated. kita mo, yun lang ang gusto niang gawin sa buhay nia.. nung ngang nagplplan na siang lumayo.. gusto lang niang magtayo ng sariling cabin nia sa woods sa may west ... tapos ang job nia eh mgaling gasoline boy.. magpapanggap siang isang deaf mute at mag-aasawa ng isa ring deaf mute.. haha.. considering the fact that he belongs to a wealthy family.. isang simpleng pangarap, isang simpleng kinabukasan.. astig di ba? ayaw nia sa mga taong PHONY.. at sia ay hindi PHONY... i like this story a lot.. maganda rin minsan na maging simpleng tao tayo.. kahit ba hindi tayo matalino.. kahit ba parang wala tayong silbi sa society natin.. basta nabubuhay ka sa anong gusto mo...sa sarili mong prinsipyo at kung anong magpapasaya sa yo! aion.. hehe.. un lang!

btw,, si Allie pala ung brother nila na namatay na.. two years younger than Holden.. si Phoebe.. bata pa tlg.. grade 4 pa lang.. pero sa family nila.. sia lang ang mahina ang ulo..kasi lahat ng kapatid nia.. si D.B.-->the eldest, si Allie at si Phoebe, sobrang nageexcel sa kahit anong bagay.. tapos ung tatay nila.. lawyer.. un! hehe// saya nito! read it!
